Saturday Science Academy

Saturday Science Academy (SSA) is a half-day motivational program held at local schools designed to leave students with a “can do” attitude about math and science. The program exposes students to simple hands-on math and science activities and has the additional benefit of giving students a chance to interact with scientists, engineers, and other technicians in a familiar environment.

I can’t think of a better way to get kids excited about science and wanting to pursue education goals to obtain a career in the scientific field.” –Parent

SSA Features:

  • SSA is a 3 hour hands-on science presentation led by Team Science guest presenters held at your local school.
  • All SSA activities and projects are aligned with California State Standards.
  • Students also receive handouts to reinforce key vocabulary and concepts. (Note: Some presenters do no use handouts.)
  • Reservations must be made at least 5 weeks in advance.
  • Minimum of 3 workshops per SSA required. Maximum of 6 workshops.
  • We may also be able to adapt presentations to suit student’s specific needs that may not be listed.

SSA Cost:

Since we consider the Saturday Science Academy part of our service to the community, we strive to keep the costs of these presentations as minimal as possible. We ask only that the school or PTA help us cover the costs of running the presentation. Each workshop can accommodate up to 25-30 students and costs on average of $595.00. Let us know what your financial constraints are and we will make every effort to work within your budget.

How to Reserve an SSA

Assign a primary contact to be the interface between the school and Team Science (preferably a teacher at the school hosting the SSA). Primary contact should then email outreach@teamscience.org with the following information (at least 5 weeks prior to the first date requested):

  • School Name and Location
  • Top 3 choices of dates
  • Teachers Names and Email Addresses who will be assisting at the SSA

Having this program is such a wonderful way to motivate and teach our children the importance of science in a fun and friendly environment so they can become our future astronauts, scientists, inventors, and leaders!” –Parent
